Sarns ( Italian : Sarnes ) is a small fraction of the municipality of Brixen in the South Tyrolean Eisack Valley in Italy . The fraction area is located on the Eisack and has around 300 inhabitants.

location

Sarns is about 3 kilometers south of the city center of Bressanone. At 600 meters above sea level , the small village is about 40 meters above the city center of Brixen and can be reached on foot in about 45 minutes. The fraction lies on a slope on the eastern side of the Eisack bank.

Neighboring places

The Albeins fraction is located south of Sarns, Milland borders Sarns to the north. The Mahr is to the west and the municipality of Brixen to the northeast of Sarns.

In the vicinity of Sarns there is a path named after Franz von Unterrichter , the Franz-von-Unterrichter-Weg. Franz von Unterrichter (1775–1867) was a South Tyrolean poet , lawyer and politician , and a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly .

history

Sarns was the summer residence of the high clergy of Brixen very early on. Many bishops took advantage of the quiet in Sarns. For a long time Sarns was a parish that was merged with Albeins . a. With the help of Bishop Emeritus Karl Golser , declared an independent parish. The 25th anniversary was celebrated on November 6, 2011 in the village.

Parish Church of St. Sebastian in Sarns

St. Sebastian

The parish church of St. Sebastian in Sarns was built in 1502 AD by Johann Matthäus Punter and consecrated to St. Sebastian in 1510 . The church tower made of Bressanone granite was completed in 1483 and was modeled on the White Tower in Bressanone. The altars are neo-Gothic and date from around 1870. On the high altar are sculptures and six busts made by Master Leonhard (third quarter of the 15th century) depicting Saint Oswald, Saint Albuin , Saint Ingenuin , Saint Catherine, the Saint Agnes , and Charlemagne represent to see. On the high altar above the confessional there are two beautiful wooden sculptures of the Madonna and Child, which are also attributed to Master Leonhard von Brixen. The pictures of the Way of the Cross are from the 18th century and the organ dates from around 1870. There are also some beautiful tombstones of old noble families .

Pallaus residence

Pallaus residence

The Pallaus residence was built in 1497–1515 by the brothers Nikolaus and Hans Palaus (also Pallaus ) on the site of an old residential tower and in the external form of a high medieval castle . The family resided here until 1824. During the Tyrolean Wars of Independence , it served as the headquarters of the French troops and is the only castle that escaped being pillaged by the French on December 6, 1809. Campan residence

The Campan residence is at the foot of a hill below the Pallaus residence. It is a listed building and can be reached from Sarns via a forest path in around 10 minutes. Campan was originally a Maierhof of the prince-bishops of Bressanone, was then freed to the residence and has been owned by the Unterrichter family for about two centuries, who still live there. It was destroyed by fire in 1860 and later rebuilt. Furthermore, the castle offers rooms such as B. atriums , staircases and a castle chapel . Apartments are available for guests and travelers.

Ratzötz Castle

Ratzötz Castle not far from Sarns was first mentioned in the 13th century and was plundered and destroyed by the French during the Tyrolean uprisings in 1809 . In the following years it was used as a farmhouse before it was completely restored. In 1904, its owner, Baron Ernst Schönberg, sold the castle to the papal chamberlain and American Francis MacNutt (1863-1927) and his wife Margaret Odgen-MacNutt, who lived in the property during the summer months. The castle currently serves as a residence and is located on Plosestrasse in the direction of Mellaun.

Club house with library

The “Ferdinand Plattner” clubhouse is located in the center of the village. There you will find the youth room for the youth of Sarns and the library , which is also a contact point for people who do not live in Sarns. There are also various celebrations and meetings, as the clubhouse has both a hall and a kitchen.

St. George's House

The educational center is located near the village center and is surrounded by a large garden with thick walls. Its history goes back to the 13th century. Courses are held at regular intervals in Haus St. Georg. It has four seminar rooms that are equipped with modern technology. The education center also offers space for parties and buffets.

Four of the Sarnser Höfe have the label "red rooster", which symbolizes " vacation on the farm ": the Rumlhof, the Bodnerhof, the Kampan Castle and the Gartnerhof. These farms offer their accommodation. Sarns can be reached from the bike path, from which you can then climb to the village center. From Sarns you can then continue cycling towards Albeins and Klausen . On weekdays, a city bus to Bressanone runs every half an hour during the day.

Agriculture

Sarns has several orchards, such as B. apple orchards and strawberry orchards, but corn is also grown. Furthermore, the livestock industry is very pronounced. In the faction's numerous farms, cows and cattle are used for farming.

education

There is no school and no kindergarten in Sarns , but the children in nearby Albeins or Milland can attend both school and kindergarten. The former school building was demolished and the club house built on this site. Courses are often held in Haus St. Georg.

traffic

The route of the Brixner Citybus includes the Sarns fraction and thus Brixen can be reached quickly and easily by bus. It takes around 10 minutes to get to the city center by bus, and around 5–7 minutes by car. The main road and the motorway do not run through Sarns.
