Johannes Baptist Geisler (born April 23, 1882 in Mayrhofen , Austria-Hungary , † September 5, 1952 in Brixen ) was the last Prince-Bishop of Brixen .

Life

Geisler was ordained a priest in 1910 . On April 2, 1930 Pope Pius XI appointed him . to the Bishop of Brixen. He was ordained bishop on May 25, 1930 by the Archpriest of the Lateran Basilica and Cardinal Bishop of Velletri , Basilio Cardinal Pompili .

During the option in South Tyrol , Geisler decided on June 25, 1940 to emigrate to the German Reich .

On April 5, 1952 he resigned from his office and was replaced by Pope Pius XII. appointed titular archbishop of Odessus . Johannes Geisler died a short time later.

His grave slab is in the Brixen Cathedral . It is a work by the diocesan curator Karl Wolfsgruber ; it shows Geisler kneeling on a prayer stool with a stole.
