Josef Matzneller

Josef Matzneller (born September 19, 1944 in Aldein ) is a South Tyrolean Roman Catholic priest . From 1996 to 2016 he was Vicar General of the Diocese of Bolzano-Brixen .

Life

After graduating from the Johanneum in Dorf Tirol , Matzneller studied theology and philosophy at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. After being ordained a priest on October 10, 1970 by Johannes Willebrands in Rome, he celebrated his primacy on December 20, 1970 in the parish church of his home town. From 1992 to 1996 Matzneller succeeded Josef Hohenegger as clergyman assistant to the parsonage. Joseph Gargitter appointed him his private secretary. From 1989 to 1996 Matzneller was Chancellor at the Episcopal Ordinariate . Wilhelm Egger appointed him Vicar General of the Diocese of Bozen-Brixen in 1996. On August 17, 2008, after the death of Bishop Egger, he was elected diocesan administrator of the diocese by the college of consultors . The new bishop Karl Golser confirmed him in the office of vicar general. On July 27, 2011, after Golser's resignation, he was re-elected diocesan administrator. The new Bishop Ivo Muser confirmed him again in the office of Vicar General. Matzneller was a lecturer in patrology at the Philosophical-Theological University of Brixen for several years . Matzneller is as provost also chairman of the chapter on Brixen Cathedral .
