French villages

Franzosendörfer is the slang term for the two Waldensian villages Gottstreu and Gewissenruh on the Upper Weser, which were founded by Landgrave Karl von Hessen-Kassel for French religious refugees in 1722. The two places to the community Wesertal .

In the 19th century, the term also included Gottsbüren , Herstelle , Mariendorf , Karlsdorf, Bad Karlshafen , St. Ottilien , Schöneberg and Kelze im Reinhardswald in addition to the two places mentioned above .
