Former Frauengebäranstalt (today Isarpost event location )

The listed brick building of the former so-called Frauengebäranstalt in Munich is located at Sonnenstrasse 24-26 and, after a long period of use as a postal savings bank, now serves as a clinic again and has a restaurant and an event location on the lower floors.

history

Construction work began in 1853, and in 1856 the building with its high pointed arched window facade on Sonnenstrasse was completed as a women's building; it was the first building in the neo-Gothic Maximilian style by the architect Georg Friedrich Christian Bürklein . Arnold Zenetti was responsible for the construction management . Until the beginning of the 20th century, the building belonged to the university women's clinic . Between 1920 and 1922 the architects from the Post Building School converted it into a postal savings and check office . After the Second World War, the facade was changed. After the post office had moved to Bayerstrasse, the post office reduced its presence in the building in the late 1990s. Since 2008 there has been a private clinic again after the post office moved out. The left part of the lower floors is used as an event location, the operator changed several times. Since the beginning of 2015, the flagship of the Hans im Glück restaurant chain has been on the right .
