Arnold Zenetti , from 1890 Knight von Zenetti , (also Arnold von Zenetti ; born June 18, 1824 in Speyer ; † September 2, 1891 in Munich ) was a German architect and Munich building officer (head of the city building authority).

Life

Arnold von Zenetti was born in Speyer as the son of the Bavarian state official, later Ministerialrat and regional president of the Palatinate , Johann Baptist von Zenetti and his wife Josepha von Mieg. After the father was transferred, the family lived in Munich . On November 6, 1843, Zenetti began studying architecture and engineering at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich , joined the city administration on May 1, 1850, and in 1867 was promoted to Munich city planning officer. During his tenure, Zenetti had a decisive influence on the urban development of the capital and residence city. He built several hospitals, whereby he attached particular importance to modern water and energy supply as well as hygiene. Examples of this are the garrison hospital in Neuhausen , today the German Heart Center Munich , and the Dr. Haunersche Children's Clinic on Lindwurmstrasse . In the middle of the 19th century, he also built numerous villa buildings in the picturesque regional national style in the new villa colonies on Lake Starnberg . Arnold Zenetti also introduced the sewer system across the board in Munich, starting with the construction of sewers in Maxvorstadt and Ludwigsvorstadt . The typical Munich name Siel is otherwise not common in southern Germany and goes back to a related study visit by Zenettis in northern Germany. He also created the Old Northern Cemetery (Maxvorstadt) and from 1876–1878 the Munich slaughterhouse and cattle yard . For the latter building project, the architect traveled to various major European cities with an expert commission in order to find out about current developments.

The builder also worked in other places. In Vienna , for example, he designed the Palais Württemberg , now the Hotel Imperial , built between 1863 and 1865 together with Heinrich Adam , as a representative domicile for Duke Philipp von Württemberg . It is still considered to be one of the most beautiful and successful neo-renaissance buildings in the Austrian capital.

On his 25th anniversary in service, Zenetti was awarded the Knight's Cross 1st Class of the Order of Merit by St. Michael in 1875 . At the same time as his 40th service anniversary, he retired on May 1, 1890; On this occasion he was awarded the civil order of merit of the Bavarian Crown , with which the personal title of nobility as a knight was connected. The city of Munich awarded its civil servant the Golden Citizen Medal and later named Zenettistrasse at the slaughterhouse after him . Zenetti received a communal grave of honor in the Old Southern Cemetery in Munich.

Arnold Zenetti was also a co-founder of the Munich volunteer fire brigade , acted as its boss from 1879 to 1891 and organized the entire municipal fire brigade .

His brother Benedikt Zenetti worked as Benedictine Abbot St. Boniface in Munich, the other brother, Julius von Zenetti , was the district president of Middle Franconia in Ansbach .

Zenetti's successor as Munich city planning officer was Wilhelm Rettig .
