The Frauenstein is a mountain in the Upper Palatinate Forest . It is located in the municipality of Weiding in the Upper Palatinate district of Schwandorf , Bavaria between Weiding and Schneeberg .

The height of the Frauenstein is given as 835 m or 875 m, depending on the source.

The remains of Frauenstein Castle are on the Frauenstein . As with the Frauenstein, the height of the castle ruins is given as 865 m or 875 m, depending on the source.

In part, these different heights are perhaps based on the fact that a gradually rising ridge with several secondary peaks extends from Frauenstein to the 886 m high Signalberg in the southeast . The Frauenstein castle ruins are located on one of these side peaks and are therefore slightly higher than the Frauenstein itself, but lower than the Signalberg.

There is a black cross on the summit of the Frauenstein. According to popular belief, the wood of this cross helps against toothache if you chew it. While the pious Weidingers keep vigil in the church from Maundy Thursday to Good Friday , the Weidinger youth have the custom of walking to the Black Cross that night laden with beer and having a drink there - a not entirely harmless undertaking, because there is often still a lot of snow on the mountainside. This custom has its origins in a legend about a treasure in Frauenstein Castle.
