Frazey Ford (born February 11, 1973 ) is a Canadian singer-songwriter and member of the folk trio The Be Good Tanyas .

Life

Frazey Ford was born in Canada, where her parents emigrated in the early 1970s to the convening of the Father for the Vietnam War by the US Army to escape. Before the family settled in Kootenays Province , they lived in local communities for a few years. As Ford stated in an interview, she spent her childhood in an unconventional atmosphere full of "poetry, travel and Bob Dylan ". Ford began her musical career in the 1990s when she met her future bandmates from The Be Good Tanyas Sam Parton and Trish Klein in Nelson . The three soon discovered their common interest in old-time music and moved to East Vancouver , where they initially tried each other as hobby musicians. While Parton and Klein tended more towards classic country and folk, Ford felt more drawn to soul .

Solo career

When her main band decided in 2008 to take time off, Ford devoted herself to working on her solo career. In 2010 the debut album Obadiah was released . The name of the record is to be understood as a reference to the musician's middle name. Musically, the release is somewhere between folk, soft jazz and soul. With tonal references to Al Green , Neil Young , Bob Dylan , Joni Mitchell , Ann Peebles , Donny Hathaway and Roberta Flack , the singer tries to bridge the gap between the folky sound of the 1970s, with which she grew up, and the always main theme of The Be Good Tanyas and her other musical world, "which is soul and gospel", could be beat.
