Fred Aguiar

Fred Aguiar (born December 3, 1948 in Artesia , California ) is an American politician .

Life path

Aguiar attended California State Polytechnic University, Pomona , 1969/1970 he served in the United States Army in Vietnam . In the late 1970s, Aguiar went into politics. From 1978 to 1992 he was on the city council of Chino , from 1986 as mayor of this medium-sized city.

In 1992 he ran to represent the 61st electoral district in the California State Assembly . Aguiar, who had changed his party preference from Democrats to Republicans just three years earlier , prevailed in both the Republican primary and the actual November election. In 1994 and 1996 he was re-elected with a clear majority and was therefore a member of the Californian lower house for the maximum possible period of six years, most recently as its vice-chairman ( speaker ). Fred Aguiar was an exceptionally active MP, most significantly his involvement in California's Three Strikes Act.

After leaving the State Assembly, Aguiar served on the Council of San Bernardino County until he was brought into the cabinet by Governor Schwarzenegger in 2003. Aguiar headed - with interruptions - until 2009 the California State and Consumer Services Agency, which is responsible for consumer protection and industrial law . He was then Deputy Chief of Staff until the end of Schwarzenegger's tenure in 2010 .
