Frederick Bernard "Fred" Rooney (born November 6, 1925 in Bethlehem , Pennsylvania , † December 23, 2019 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1963 and 1979 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Fred Rooney attended the public schools in his home country and graduated from Bethlehem High School in 1944 . During the final stages of World War II , he served in the US Army between 1944 and 1946 . He was used in Europe. He then studied at the University of Georgia in Athens until 1950 . In the following years he worked in the real estate market as well as in the insurance industry. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1958 and 1963 he was a member of the Pennsylvania Senate .

After the death of MP Francis E. Walter , Rooney was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on July 30, 1963. After seven re-elections, he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1979 . During this time, the Vietnam War , the Watergate affair and the end of the civil rights movement took place . In 1978 he was not re-elected.

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Fred Rooney served as a business advisor.
