Donald L. Knight

Donald Lawrence Ritter (born October 21, 1940 in New York City ) is an American politician . Between 1979 and 1993 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Donald Ritter attended the public schools in his home country and then studied at Lehigh University in Bethlehem until 1961 . This was followed by studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology until 1966 . There he was also a research assistant from 1961 to 1968. In 1967 and 1968 he was an exchange student at the Baikov Institute in Moscow . He then taught at California State Polytechnic University in Pomona . At the same time he was a consultant for General Dynamics . From 1969 to 1976 he taught metallurgy at Lehigh University. Then he was manager of the research program of this university until 1978. He also acted as a consultant to a number of industrial companies.

Politically, Ritter became a member of the Republican Party . In the 1978 congressional elections he was elected to the 15th  constituency of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Democrat Fred B. Rooney on January 3, 1979 . After six re-elections, he was able to complete seven legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1993 . There he was temporarily a member of the Committee on Energy and Trade and the Committee on Science and Technology . He campaigned for human rights worldwide and condemned the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan . Ritter was considered a conservative MP. In 1992 he was not re-elected.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Donald Ritter founded the National Environmental Policy Institute , which he headed until 2002. In 1996 he founded the Afghanistan Foundation . There he was or is also economically involved. After the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , he spent a lot of time in Afghanistan . Today he lives in Coopersburg . He has two grown children from his previous marriage.
