Paul McHale

Paul F. McHale Jr. (born July 26, 1950 in Bethlehem , Pennsylvania ) is an American politician . Between 1993 and 1999 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Paul McHale attended his native Liberty High School and then studied law at Lehigh University until 1972 . He then continued his studies at Georgetown University's law school in Washington, DC until 1977 . In the meantime, he served in the Marine Corps from 1972 to 1974 , of which he was a member until 2007. He made it to the colonel. McHale took an active part in the Gulf War in the early 1990s. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In 1980 he unsuccessfully sought his party's nomination for the congressional elections. Between 1983 and 1991 he was an MP in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives .

In the 1992 congressional election , McHale was elected to the 15th  constituency of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Republican Donald L. Ritter on January 3, 1993 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 1999 . He was noticed when he - although a member of the Democrats - called on President Bill Clinton to resign in the context of the Lewinsky affair in 1998 . He was also one of only five Democrats in the US House of Representatives to back the impeachment process against the president.

In 1998 Paul McHale renounced another candidacy. Between 2003 and 2009 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Defense of Homeland Security ( Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense ) under the Republican President George W. Bush .
