Fred Ponedel

Frederic Leo Ponedel (born February 15, 1913 in California , † January 30, 1974 in Los Angeles , California) was an American film technology pioneer who was awarded an Oscar for technical merits at the Academy Awards in 1948 , 1952 and 1959 .

Life

Fred Ponedel, one of the film technology pioneers at Warner Bros. was awarded a Technical Achievement Award of Class III for the first time at the 1948 Academy Awards "for his pioneering work in the manufacture and practical application of color film photography with large translucent backgrounds" ( "For pioneering the fabrication and practical application to motion picture color photography of large translucent photographic backgrounds").

At the Academy Awards in 1952 , Ponedel received another award, this time together with Ralph Ayres and George Brown , who also worked at Warner Bros. Studios, “for creating an air-powered water motor that is also suitable for currents and suction as well as whitewater during marine sequences in moving images war "(" For an air-driven water motor to provide flow, wake and white water for marine sequences in motion pictures ").

A third and final award came in 1959, again together with George Brown and Conrad Boye , with whom Ponedel worked in the special effects department at Warner Bros., "for the design and manufacture of a new rapid-fire bullet pistol" ("For the design and fabrication of a new rapid-fire marble gun ").
