Fred von Allmen (* 1943 in Berne ) is one of the first Swiss teacher of Vipassana - meditation , co-founder of the Meditation Center Beatenberg (Switzerland) together with Ursula Flückiger and others, author of a number of books on Buddhist practice, heads of meditation courses and -Retreats in knowledge -Meditation (Vipassana) and compassion ( Metta -Meditation) worldwide.

Life

Von Allmen was born in Bern in 1943 and grew up there. From 1959 to 1969 he did an apprenticeship and worked as a photographer.

From 1970 he traveled to India and spent a total of seven years in Asia studying and practicing Buddhist meditation. He studied and practiced under Lama Geshe Rabten and spent a total of four years in retreat at the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) in Massachusetts, USA, under Joseph Goldstein , Sharon Salzberg , Jack Kornfield and Christopher Titmuss. From 2002 he took part in retreats in the Dzogchen tradition under Tsoknyi Rinpoche.

In 1984 he began teaching in Europe, India and the USA. From 1986 to 2000 he worked with the Dhamma Group Switzerland, which organized 130 meditation retreats in over twenty years. In 2000 he was a co-founder of the Beatenberg Meditation Center in Switzerland.

Teacher

Since 1970 Fred von Allmen has been practicing various forms of Buddhist meditation under well-known teachers of the Tibetan Dzogchen and Gelug traditions as well as the Theravada tradition. His main teachers include Geshe Rabten , the Dalai Lama , Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche, Tsoknyi Rinpoche, Anagarika Munindra, Joseph Goldstein , Jack Kornfield , Sharon Salzberg , Christopher Titmuss and Christina Feldman.

In 1999 Fred von Allmen began to train a number of Dharma teachers and to authorize them to hold retreats or courses in city centers. He has published numerous articles in Buddhist magazines such as Buddhism News , Cause & Effect , Connection , Tao and Lotus Leaves .
