Freddy Locks (born December 9, 1977 in Lisbon ) is the stage name of the Portuguese reggae musician Frederico Oliveira.

Life

Growing up in Lisbon's Alvalade district, he was part of the punk and squatter scene around bands like Ku de Júdas , Censurados and others, also as a musician in up-and-coming bands . In the course of 1995 he made special experiences that changed him. According to his own statement, he found his “own light, the secret of positive reality” that summer. I found what people call God and what lives in every living being. ”He had already met reggae musician Asher G. ( Asher Guardian ), who had been living in Portugal for a long time , after he had met with one of his bands on 20 pás 08 who had turned to reggae punk. From then on he devoted himself entirely to reggae, wrote songs and sometimes sang them on the street or in the Lisbon subway . In 2003 20 pás 08 broke up and Locks began to play solo. In 2004 he recorded his first album, in collaboration and produced by Asher G. The independently released album met with some approval, in particular the track Wake up was declared track of the year 2004 by the reggae show Radio Fazuma on Antena 3 .

In 2004 he founded the band Poormanstyle , who performed at the MUSA festival together with Sly & Robbie , before releasing his first all-solo album in 2006. The single Bring up the feeling was in the playlists u. a. recorded by Antena 3 and MTV Portugal. Since then, Freddy Locks has been one of the recognized names of reggae in Portugal.

He was chosen several times by listeners and DJs from Antena 3, and was several times headlining various festivals in Portugal, solo or as part of the Sistema Sonoro Fazuma - sound system , for example at the environmental & reggae festival RastaFest in Beja 2009.
