Frederick Buckley Newell

Frederick Buckley Newell (born March 11, 1890 in Hartford , Connecticut , † August 12, 1979 in Groton ) was a Methodist theologian and bishop .

Life

Newell received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wesleyan University in 1913 . In 1916 he graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York and an MA from Columbia University .

In 1917 Newell was called to be a deacon of the Methodist Episcopal Church in New York . After his ordination , he served as a pastor in various New York churches. In 1952 he was appointed bishop by Luther Barton Wilson . As a bishop he served in the Troy Conference in New York State .

He had been married to Emily Louise Lewis since 1919 and had two children.

Honors

In 1931 the Mount Union College in Alliance (Ohio) and in 1938 Wesleyan University awarded him an honorary doctorate in theology (DD / Divinitatis Doctor). In 1955 he was awarded the German Federal Cross of Merit.
