Frederick Gerard Peake CMG , CBE (born June 12, 1886 in Epsom , Surrey , † March 30, 1970 in Kelso , Scotland ) was a British officer .

Life

Peake was born the son of a lieutenant colonel in the British Army . After an unsuccessful application to the Royal Navy , Peak was accepted at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst . In 1906 he was seconded to the Duke of Wellington's Regiment in British India as a Second Lieutenant . In the spring of 1914 he was transferred to Egypt on his own initiative . In 1915 he commanded a camel company as a captain. In 1916 he took part in the suppression of an uprising in Darfur and in fighting against Bulgarian troops around Saloniki . In the wake of the Arab revolt, Peake commanded TE Lawrence's camel corps .

After the end of the war he was transferred to Transjordan , where he initially held the command of the local gendarmerie. In 1920, at his instigation, the Arab Legion was founded . Peake commanded the unit until his retirement in March 1939. Peake settled in Scotland after his departure. During the Second World War , Peake served in civil defense . He died on March 30, 1970.

Peake was married with a daughter.
