Frederick Halterman

Frederick Halterman (born October 22, 1831 in Bremen , †  March 22, 1907 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician of German origin. Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Frederick Halterman, who comes from the Bremen district of Vegesack , attended the public schools in his homeland. In 1849 he came to Philadelphia, where he worked in the grocery store until 1891. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1880 and 1883 he was a member of the Philadelphia City Council.

In the congressional election of 1894 , Halterman was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Democrat William McAleer , whom he had defeated in the election, on March 4, 1895 . Since he lost to McAleer in 1896, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1897 .

From 1898 until his death on March 22, 1907, Frederick Halterman ran a local school district in Philadelphia.
