Frederick King Turgeon
Frederick King Turgeon (born December 26, 1901 in Auburn , Androscoggin County , Maine , United States , † July 10, 1987 in Amherst , Hampshire County , Massachusetts , United States) was an American Romanist .
life and work
Turgeon received his doctorate from Harvard University in 1929 with the work Fanny de Beauharnais (published by T. Fanny de Beauharnais . Biographical Notes and a Bibliography, in: Modern Philology 30, 1932-1933, pp. 61-80). He was Professor of French at Amherst College from 1926 to 1969 . From 1970 a prize was named after him there (Frederick King Turgeon Prize).
Turgeon was married to the cookbook author Charlotte Turgeon (1912-2009), who was very successful in the United States.
