Frederick Marx

Frederick Marx is an American film producer , film editor , screenwriter and film director .

Life

Marx grew up in Champaign , Illinois and studied at Southern Illinois University and the University of Illinois . In 1981 he made his first short documentary with Dream Documentary . He remained loyal to the documentary field, staged his own projects and was also involved in other films as editor, producer and screenwriter.

In 1994 he was named Chicago Tribune Artist of the Year by the Chicago Tribune . In 1995 he was awarded a Guggenheim grant .

For his work on the film editing of Hoop Dreams , Marx was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Editing in 1995 together with Steve James and William Haugse . They also won the Eddie Award from the American Cinema Editors .
