Frederick "Freddie" Hilton Morgan , MBE (born June 30, 1893 in Johannesburg , † July 29, 1980 in Bulawayo , Zimbabwe ) was a South African marksman .

successes

Frederick Morgan participated in the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerpparticipated in seven disciplines. The result of his only individual participation is unknown, while he finished with the team in most of the remaining six competitions, the competition in the midfield of all participants. An exception was the competition with the army rifle in the prone position over 600 m, in which the South African team as well as the US and the Swedish team scored 287 points, which resulted in a jump-off for the three medal places. Morgan was with 58 points like two other team members the second best shooter of the team. In the first round of the jump-off, the Swedes only got 275 points, while the Americans and South Africans were again tied with 283 points. In the second jump-off, the US team finally prevailed, scoring 284 points. The South African team got just 279 points, leaving Morgan and his teammatesFerdinand Buchanan , David Smith , George Harvey and Robert Bodley won the silver medal.

Until 1963 he was active as a marksman and won numerous national titles in South Africa and also in his new adopted home South Rhodesia and Rhodesia . He then began to work as a shooting coach. In the same year he was named Member of the Order of the British Empire for his services and achievements . Morgan also represented Southern Rhodesia internationally from 1922 to 1923 in football and from 1923 to 1924 in cricket . He also won national titles in Southern Rhodesia as a motorcycle racer . His son Hilton played both hockey and soccer for Rhodesia and hockey for South Africa. In 1957, Hilton Morgan was Rhodesia's Sportsman of the Year.

During World War I , Frederick Morgan served in the Witwatersrand Rifles Regiment .
