successes

George Harvey took part in the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 and in Antwerp in 1920 . In 1912 he placed in four of five disciplines in the back field, only in the team competition with the army rifle over four distances he just missed a medal in fourth. In 1920 he also started in five disciplines. The result of his only individual participation is unknown. Harvey finished three out of four competitions with the team in the midfield of all participants. An exception was the competition with the army rifle in the prone position over 600 m, in which the South African team as well as the US and Swedish teams scored 287 points, which resulted in a jump-off for the three medal places. Harvey was with 58 points like two other team members the second best shooter of the team. In the first round of the jump-off, the Swedes only got 275 points, while the Americans and South Africans were again tied with 283 points. In the second jump-off, the US team finally prevailed, scoring 284 points. The South African team got just 279 points, so Harvey and his teammates Ferdinand Buchanan , David Smith , Frederick Morgan and Robert Bodley won the silver medal.
