Frederico Leão Cabreira

Frederico Leão Cabreira de Brito Alvelos Drago Valente (born July 5, 1800 in Vila Real de Santo António , † November 30, 1880 in Lisbon ) was a Portuguese colonial administrator.

Life

Cabreira began his military career in 1816 as a cadet with the 2nd Artillery Regiment in Faro . In 1823 he was promoted to second lieutenant ( 2º tenente ).

In Goa , Cabreira was an instructor and director of the military academy, commander of the artillery of the province, adjutant general of the army in India and director of all squares and fortifications ( director de todas as praças e fortalezas ). From January 22, 1839 to February 7, 1844, Cabreira was governor of Portuguese Timor and Solor with the rank of lieutenant colonel . In 1845 he received the distinction of Commander of the Order of Avis for his services in India and Timor .

From 1846 to 1847 Cabreira was governor of the Castelo de São Jorge in Lisbon. In 1847 he received the Orden de Isabel la Católica for his contribution to the Little Civil War ( Patuleia ), in which the conservative government defeated the rebellious Setembrists in Porto with the help of British and Spanish troops . Later on, Cabreira held many other offices: commander of the subdivision of the Azores island of São Miguel , military governor of the Praça-forte of Valença , envoy in the Cortes , commander of the Divisão Militar do Algarve , member of the Supreme Council of Military Justice ( Supremo Conselho de Justiça Militar ) and many others . Most recently, he held the rank of division general ( General de Divisão ). Cabreira also wrote books and articles for newspapers and magazines.

From 1861 to 1863 Cabreira was interim grand master of the Freemasons of the Grande Oriente Lusitano .

King Luís I appointed Cabreira, who was already a Fidalgo da Casa Real, to the Visconde of Faro on August 16, 1870 .

Cabreira married three times. 1821 with Leonor de Loureiro Krusse († 1853), 1868 with Maria dos Remédios Augusta Álvares Pinheiro Correia de Lacerda Green Cabreira († 1872) and 1873 with Maria Carolina da Guarda Cabreira de Faria e Alvelos Drago da Ponte . With his first wife, Cabreira had two sons and two daughters.
