The Party of the Free Egyptians ( Arabic حزب المصريين الأحرار, DMG Hizb al-Maṣriyyīn al-Ahrar , also translated as Party Free Egyptians , Party Free Egyptians or party The Free Egyptians ) is an Egyptian liberal party after the Egyptian Revolution of 2011 was established. Their motto is party for all Egyptians (حزب لكل المصريين).

Since it was founded on August 16, 2011, the Free Egyptian Party has been an integral part of the Egyptian Bloc , a broad coalition of parties that opposed the Muslim Brotherhood and its political arm, the Freedom and Justice Party , and defends Egypt's secularity as well of Egyptian civil society.

history

Founding conference in Alexandria

On April 3, 2011, a group of intellectuals and political activists headed by engineer and businessman Naguib Sawiris announced the founding of the Free Egyptians Party and explained the party's program and goals, as well as its basic principles, at a conference in the Al Jazeera youth center . Prominent party members include the Egyptian-American scientist Farouk El-Baz , the revolutionary Egyptian-Arab poet Ahmed Fouad Negm , the writer Gamal al-Ghitani and the telecommunications entrepreneur Khaled Bichara .

In July 2011 there were internal disputes in the Free Egyptian Party. An internal group called the Group of 17 accused the national party leadership of undemocratic methods in the selection of local leaders in the Damietta Governorate and complained that former members of the National Democratic Party , the ruling party of the overthrown Mubarak administration, were allowed to join the Free Egyptian Party. Five of these dissidents were expelled from the party and referred to as "troublemakers" by party officials.

Ahmed Hassan Said was the chairman until September 2014 .
