Freedom Cup

The Freedom Cup is a cup competition in the sport of rugby union , which is held annually between the national teams of South Africa (the Springboks ) and New Zealand (the All Blacks ). It took place for the first time in 2004 and consisted of a single international match, the first cup holder was South Africa. From 2006 the competition became part of the Tri-Nations tournament ( The Rugby Championship since 2012 ) and was decided in a series of three. In 2011 only two games took place due to the World Cup . After that, the series was reduced to two encounters due to the expansion of the Tri Nations. In 2015 and 2019 there was only one game due to the respective World Cup.
