The Tegeler See open-air swimming pool , originally and still occasionally called Strandbad Tegelsee or Strandbad Tegel , was a public bathing establishment in the Tegel district of Berlin's Reinickendorf district . It has been closed since 2016.

The outdoor pool is located on the west bank of Lake Tegel in the Tegel Forest , across from the island of Lindwerder and between the Reiherwerder peninsula in the north and Tegelort in the south. The summer pool was opened in 1933 after a sandy beach had been filled in and has been managed by the Berlin pool companies (BBB) since 1996, although it has been leased in the meantime .

Beach and facilities

The approximately 500-meter-long, white sandy beach is framed by the pine forests of the Tegel Forest and has a separate nudist section. In the water area there are slides, a bathing island and a diving tower with 1-meter and 3-meter platforms. Sports and games on land include a beach volleyball court , table tennis and a playground with a seesaw and climbing frame. Additional facilities include beach chairs (fees apply), cold showers, toilets, a snack bar and a restaurant.

Since 1995, the Tegeler See is the only backwater in Berlin to have achieved EU quality class II with regard to the level of pollution with organically degradable material . The outdoor pool complies with the EU bathing water directive . The visibility depth in July 2011 was 230 cm. Due to a sampling on July 4, 2011 at the pool the assessed State Office of Health and Welfare , the hygienic situation of the water body as excellent.

In the summer of 2017, cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) were found in Lake Tegel . This led to the death of several dogs. A warning was given against bathing. However, the lake recovered that same summer and the warnings were lifted.

Season and transport connections

The season usually starts around June 10th and continues until the end of August. Use of the pool is chargeable - however, there are a number of other bathing areas with smaller sandy beaches around Lake Tegel, which are accessible free of charge, for example a few meters south of the outdoor pool at the DLRG water rescue station Scharfenberger-Enge on the ferry to the Scharfenberg island .

The bathroom is on the asphalted Black Path. A parking lot is available for cars , which is often overcrowded in the high season. The connection to Berlin's public transport network is currently (as of 2017) with the BVG bus 222 to Falkenplatz in Konradshöhe . From there, a 1.2 kilometer long footpath through the forest has to be covered. The pool is easy to reach by bike.
