Freiberg is a district in the north of Stuttgart . The area was part of the Münster district until 1963 and then became part of the Mühlhausen district .
The large housing development was from 1964 to 1973 above a steep slope ( position Cannstatter Zuckerle) of Neckars . The “Julius Brecht” residential complex was built between 1966 and 1968 according to plans by Hans Max Brenner and, with its 22 storeys, was considered the largest German residential building when it was completed. It has 440 residential units. Other rows of houses were designed by architect Eberhard Rau. Adalbert-Stifter-Strasse and Mönchfeldstrasse form a ring, from which access roads lead to the settlement. District heating is supplied by the Münster waste-to-energy plant . To the east is the Mönchfeld district .
For a long time, the district was a redevelopment area as part of the Socially Integrative City program in order to alleviate or eliminate problems. Among the problems the emergence listed by fear spaces , "clearly in need of integration groups by relatively high unemployment and high social assistance, as well as territorial and blocks high concentration of non-German population," supply faults in goods of short, medium and long-term needs and deficits in the development by the Local public transport . The problems have been partially resolved.
