The 1980 European Free Game Championship was the 19th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from May 22nd to 25th, 1980 in Lugo . It was the fifth free game European championship in Spain.

history

With a solid performance, Willy Wesenbeek continued the Belgian tradition of European champions in the free game with the tenth title. Behind the French Georges Bourezg, the best player of the tournament, the Dutch Jan Armouts, finished third with all his best performances. After a weak start, Düsseldorf's Dieter Wirtz finished fifth with victories against Arouts, Tuset and Mastny. Ontonio Oddo from Italy, qualified as the eighth participant, had to cancel the tournament at short notice due to illness. It was the last tournament in which up to 500 points were played.

mode

The game was played in a final round "everyone against everyone" up to 500 points. In the event of a tie in a recording, each player received two match points. Extended series were counted.
