The 1986 European Free Game Championship was the 20th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from May 1st to 4th, 1986 in Lyon . It was the fourth European Free Game Championship in France.
history
A lot of young players determined this European Championship. In the final, 25-year-old Fonsy Grethen from Luxembourg and 21-year-old Raimond Burgman from the Netherlands faced each other. Burgmann won his first four games all in one shot. Grethen started the tournament with three matches in two shots and then followed three times with one shot and deservedly became the new European champion. The local Georges Bourezg won the "small" final against Franz Stenzel. The German champion Heinz Janzen from Bottrop disappointed across the board and only finished eleventh.
mode
The game was played in three preliminary round groups. The two best in the group and the two best thirds reached the quarter-finals. Then knockout round. Places three to eight were played out. The game length was 400 points.
