Freedom Fighter Lee Hoe-young ( Korean : 자유인 이회영 ) is a 5-part South Korean story series that aired on KBS1 between August 29 and September 12, 2010 . It is based on the life of the Korean independence fighter Lee Hoe-young , who, together with his extended family, spent all of his fortune after the annexation of Korea by Japan to achieve the country's independence again. It was the last of the " Noblesse oblige " series produced by KBS , after The Honorable Family and The Great Dealer . In the end, a short documentary about Lee Hoe-young including an interview with his sons Lee Kyu-chang and Lee Kyu-dong was shown.

action

Around the Japanese annexation of Korea in 1910, Lee Hoe-young and his whole family sold the entire family property and moved to Manchuria to fight the Japanese occupation forces from there. He opens a military school for the volunteer independence fighters, including many later commanders of the Korean independence movement. After the First World War , he became a member of the Korean provisional government in Shanghai and later joined the anarchist movement to subsequently operate underground. In 1932 he decides to kill the commander of the Japanese Kwantung Army , Mutō Nobuyoshi , and tries to get to Dalian . However, his journey was announced beforehand and he was arrested by the Japanese police at Dalian Harbor. Shortly afterwards, he died of torture in the Japanese consulate.

The drama begins from the narrative perspective of the Japanese war correspondent Kimura Junpei, who initially referred to Lee Hoe-young as a terrorist , but later developed admiration for his courage.
