KBS1 is a South Korean public television broadcaster operated by KBS ( Korean Broadcasting System ). Compared to KBS2 , the focus of the programs is on news , current affairs , culture and documentaries , supplemented by dramas , animations as well as music and sports programs.

history

KBS TV began broadcasting television on December 31, 1961 as the first full-fledged television station in South Korea . Regular broadcasts began on January 15 of the following year.

KBS started out as a commercial television station, but the radio tax was introduced in 1963 . KBS1 has not broadcast any advertising since October 1994 .

The monopoly ended with the commissioning of the TV station TBC ( Tongyang Broadcasting Company ) in 1965 . In December 1980, due to political pressure from the then military government under Chun Doo-hwan, a merger with TBC and the takeover of several private broadcasters , resulting in KBS1.

In the course of digitization and the lifting of the night-time broadcasting ban for terrestrial TV channels, KBS1 was the first Korean TV channel to start all-day broadcasting without interruption on October 8, 2012 , even if the broadcast was regularly interrupted either on Sunday and Monday at night or on Monday and Tuesday at night due to technical maintenance becomes.
