Freizeit im Sattel (short: FS ) was a trade magazine about horses from 1958 to April 2008. Especially about recreational riding, robust horses and robust horse keeping. Ursula Bruns was the founder, publisher and editor-in-chief.

history

Leisure in the saddle emerged from the Pony Post founded in 1958 by Ursula Bruns , a hectographed circular for pony owners. In 1969 the magazine was renamed to Freizeit im Sattel . Subtitle: “Largest international magazine for the breeding and keeping of robust horses” (1969–1979) and “Horse love with expertise - the magazine that shows how to do it” (1980–1992). Ursula Bruns increasingly withdrew from editorial work for reasons of age and then handed it over to her long-term partner Erika Müller, to whom she also sold her shares in the publishing house. In 2008 - after a total of 50 years - Freizeit im Sattel was sold to the Pegasus Verlag and integrated there into the magazine Pegasus - Freizeit im sattel . After three years, he sold to Jahr Top Special Verlag , who discontinued the magazine and only used the readers' addresses for their own purposes.

Topics and meaning

The FS was read by all recreational riders in the 1970s and 1980s. It was a pamphlet for horse-friendly riding, a counterpoint to the "carrot and stick" taught at the time in the FN and to tournament sports. Open stable housing was taught as a substitute for stable housing. She was a pioneer for the Iceland horses and Horse Owning, for trail riding and endurance riding and the establishment of the VFD . She initiated the groundwork and easy riding with the 10-day courses for adult beginners. She fought against riding bans in the woods and fields. Even the Western riding was taught in monthly contributions, as well as the method of Linda Tellington . The magazine was the first to report extensively on foreign races and other riding styles : Western riding, classic riding, Iberian riding, Gardian riding, as well as the tölt and pass gaits.
