The Association of Leisure Riders and Drivers in Germany (VFD) is a registered association based in Hanover , which sees itself as a point of contact for leisure riders and drivers who ride and drive primarily in nature and on trail rides and have an interest in have a species-appropriate handling of the horse , and give priority to the leisure time with the horse over the sport. The VFD is the largest network for recreational riders and recreational riders with many partners in Germany and Europe. The VFD is open to riding styles of all styles and, unlike the FN or the EMU, does not differentiate between dressage and western riding . The federal office is in Twistringen .

The club was founded on May 7, 1973 as an initiative against a severe restriction of riding rights in the woods and fields planned in the early 1970s . Even today, lobbying against riding bans or against initiatives to introduce a horse tax is a focus of the VFD's activities.

organization

The VFD is organized in 14 national associations, one of them in Italy:

The VFD is legally a general association with the consequence that all members of the VFD are also members of a regional association and a possible further subdivision. The regional structure can differ within the state associations, for example in North Rhine-Westphalia there is a regional sub-association for almost every district or city, while in Lower Saxony larger areas are grouped together into district associations. The regional structures represent the contact points for members and interested parties. They usually offer regular get-togethers and events that are also open to non-members.

tasks

The VFD sees itself as a lobbying association for recreational riders and drivers and therefore tries to exert influence on legislative initiatives and ordinances that affect the interests of horse owners, riders and drivers at federal, state and municipal levels. These can be changes in animal , nature , forest , riding and hunting law , or coordination processes regarding the designation of riding trails in a municipality.

The VFD promotes recreational riding and driving as a health and popular sporting activity including the related youth work as well as animal and nature conservation. The VFD therefore sees itself as a lobbyist for horses and accordingly advocates a species-appropriate treatment of them and species-appropriate, ecological forms of horse keeping .

The VFD also offers training in the areas of riding guide dogs, hemming, driving, vaulting , cross-country and trail riding .
