Markus Becker (jazz musician)

Markus Johannes Becker (born May 24, 1956 in Offenbach am Main ) is a German modern jazz pianist who is increasingly turning to new improvisational music.

Live and act

Becker studied at the Graz University of Music from 1976 to 1979 , where he also met his partner, the pianist Elvira Plenar . He then worked in Munich with Klaus Weiss , on whose albums Density and Plays Ballads he was involved. In 1981 he moved to Frankfurt, where he was regularly involved in productions by the hr jazz ensemble . He mainly played with musicians as diverse as Roman Schwaller , Uli Beckerhoff , John Schröder , Wilson de Oliveira , Christof Lauer , Tony Lakatos , Johannes Faber , Joe Gallardo , Lee Konitz and Alphonse Mouzon . In the early 1990s he was a member of Heinz Sauer's group ( Lost Ends , 1993), but also led his own group. Then he mainly worked in various formations around Burkard Kunkel .

He performed at the Frankfurt Jazz Festival in 1983, 1994, 1995 and 2002 (then with Atlantic Auge ). He also played u. a. at the festivals of Mulhouse , San Sebastián , Wiesen and Riga .
