Richard Brian "Rick" Hollander (born November 16, 1956 in Detroit ) is an American musician ( drummer , pianist and composer ) of modern jazz .

Live and act

Hollander began playing drums at the age of nine, studied music theory and composition at Oakland Community College in his hometown and had private lessons with Gene Stewart and Roy Brooks . In 1979 he moved to New York City , where he worked with Woody Shaw , Robin Eubanks , Arnett Cobb , Rufus Reid , Tim Hagans , Steve Grossman and Roy Hargrove . Since the mid-1980s he has been working with his own groups, with whom he also gave concerts at the Monterey Jazz Festival and the North Sea Jazz Festival and released several albums. In 1987 he moved to Europe in 1991 to Munich , where he lives to this day. There he also worked as a drummer in the groups of Hermann Breuer , Peter Tuscher , Michael Arlt , Johannes Herrlich , Steve Houben and Walter Lang . He has also worked on recordings by Larry Porter , Ludwig Seuss , Beate Kittsteiner , Melanie Bong , Herbert Noord, Jason Seizer , Nathalie Loriers , Conte Candoli and Charles Loos / André Donni .

Prizes and awards

In 1990 Hollander and his quartet won the “European Jazz Contest” in Hoeilaart / Belgium.
