Stephan Schmolck

Stephan Schmolck (born February 2, 1951 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German jazz bassist and composer.

Schmolck initially studied violin at the Frankfurt University of Music , and from 1979 also double bass . Since the 1980s he has worked with Christof Lauer , Bob Degen , John Schröder and Janusz Stefański . He also played in Jürgen Wuchner's "String Project". In 1987 he was one of the founders of the "Frankfurt Jazz Big Band", but also played with Hugo Read and the hr-jazz ensemble , for whose studio work he also provided sophisticated compositions. In the late 1980s he also performed at festivals with Bob Mover , Allen Blairman and Art Farmer . During the 1990s he was part of Heinz Sauer's combo and can also be heard on his album "Exchange II", which was awarded the Phonoakademie. He also toured internationally with Christopher Dell and Sauer. He has dealt intensively with the connection between electronics and acoustic instruments (CD electric bundle with Hugo Read, Eric Schaefer and John Schröder, also live with Michael Wollny ). He plays with Read and Bob Degen in the trio back and forth (CD 2007), with Read and Wolf Mayer in the group Dialects . He has also appeared with “Jos Rinck und die Tonkünstler” and with the group “Schlag auf Schlag”

Schmolck teaches at the Frankfurt Music School.
