Foreign Language Office of China

The Foreign Language Office of China ( Chinese  中国外文局 , Pinyin Zhōngguó wàiwénjú ), officially China International Publishing Group (CIPG; Chinese  中国外文出版发行事业局 , Pinyin Zhōngguó wàiwén chūbǎn Faxing shiye jú ) is an organ of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China , which in On behalf of the party and government responsible for publications and monitoring of media in various languages. It is based in Beijing and currently employs 2,588 people according to its own information.

The forerunner of the Foreign Language Office was founded in 1949. In 1963 it got its current name and was subordinate to the State Council , in 1982 it was reorganized and subordinated to the Ministry of Culture. In 1991 and 1995 the current organizational structure was created.

The Foreign Language Office includes:

  • the publishing house for foreign language literature (外文 出版社)
  • the Sinolingua publishing house (华语 教学 出版社)
  • the publishing house Neue Welt (新世界 出版社)
  • the publishing house Neuer Stern (新星 出版社)
  • the publisher Morning Glory (朝华 出版社 简介)
  • the magazines Beijing Rundschau (《北京 周报》; in Chinese, English, French, German and Japanese), Chinafrica and Chinafrique (in English and French)
  • the magazine China heute (《今日 中国》; formerly China under construction ; in Chinese, English, French, German, Spanish and Arabic)
  • the magazine China im Bild (《人民 画报》; in Chinese, English, Russian, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Italian and Arabic)
  • the magazine El Popola Ĉinio ("From People's China", 《中国 报道》; in Esperanto )
  • the magazine Jinmin Chūgoku (" People's China ", 《人民 中国》; in Japanese)
  • the Potala magazine (in Tibetan , Chinese and English)
  • an organization for the surveillance and censorship of the internet ( Chinese  违法 和 不良 信息 举报 中心 , Pinyin Wéifǎ hé bùliáng xìnxī jǔbào zhōngxīn )
  • the foreign language printing company Beijing (外文 印刷厂)
  • the Chinese Association of Translators (中国 翻译 协会)
  • the Chinese Esperanto Society
  • a test center for interpreters and translators (CATTI; 中国 外文 局 考评 中心)

The Foreign Language Office has an international sales organization in Beijing (中国 国际 图书 贸易 总公司) and several branches abroad (including Cypress Book / 常青 图书 公司 in the USA and Peace Book / 和平 圖書 有限公司 in Hong Kong ), as well as a sales partner in Germany .

The director of the Foreign Language Office is Cài Míngzhào 蔡 名 照. He is also the director of the Press Office of the State Council.
