Fresh Familee was one of the first German hip-hop groups and was founded in the late 1980s in Ratingen-West by Turkish, Moroccan, Macedonian and German youth.

description

In their songs they sing about drugs , violence , crime or migrant problems - topics that affect the band members personally, because Ratingen-West is a district that is considered a social hotspot due to the high unemployment rate . For Tachi and his friends, music meant getting out of a life of drugs, fights and other criminal offenses.

They quickly became better known, received the Düsseldorf Young Talent Award in 1990 and went on tour in 1993 as the opening act for the American rapper Ice-T and his rock band Body Count .

Her song Ahmet Gündüz is considered the first rap production in Germany to be pressed in German. After the Fantastischen Vier , they were the second German rap formation to receive a record deal with a major label , Phonogram / Mercury. This was followed by television appearances and interviews on WDR, ZDF, Sat.1 and ORF.

At the end of the 1990s, the group disbanded after a total of four album releases. Since then, the members have worked in other music groups such as the Jazzkantine (Tachi).

The first German hip-hop film was made in 1991 by Detlev F. Neufert about Fresh Familee : Fresh Familee - Coming from Ratinga . It was first broadcast on WDR television . The film was seen by many as a door opener to rap and hip-hop in Germany. Director Neufert sings the refrain in the song Heimat . The group's first rehearsals started in the youth club in Ratingen-West. The recordings for her first album took place under the direction of Romano Granderath at Zollhof 15 in the Düsseldorf harbor , which has since been torn down and replaced by three office buildings by Frank O. Gehry .
