Chem trend

Chem-Trend logo

Chem-Trend is an international company headquartered in Howell , Michigan, USA. According to its own statements, the company is the world market leader in the field of release agents and supplies customers in the automotive and their supplier industries, the aviation industry, in the construction industry, the wind power and tire industries, as well as industries that process plastics, rubber, wood composites, metal die-casting and polyurethane . Chem-Trend has been part of Freudenberg Chemical Specialties KG Munich since 2004.

history

Chem-Trend was founded in 1960 by the chemist Peer Lorentzen, who emigrated from Denmark . Lorentzen began developing mold release agents for polyurethane foam, using the kitchen at home as a laboratory and production facility. In this way, he was able to provide release agents that made the molding process easier, more reliable and more cost-effective. A little later, Lorentzen achieved a comparable breakthrough for the die casting industry. As a rule, highly flammable, graphite-based mold release agents based on solvents and mineral oils were used, which often caught fire due to the high process temperatures. The surplus created slippery, unsafe floors in the factory floors. The systems were black with smoke, which posed a risk to occupational safety and a high health risk. Lorentzen succeeded in producing the first commercially successful water-based mold release agent. These product innovations made the conditions in the die-casting factories cleaner and safer and enabled the production of residue-free, bright molded parts.
