Frida Åkerström

Frida Åkerström (born November 29, 1990 ) is a Swedish athlete who specializes in the shot put.

Career

On August 29, 2013, she started in Borås at the shot put competition of the Swedish World Athletics Championships, where she secured the Swedish championship title in the shot put with a distance of 15.92 meters . A year later she was unable to defend her title in Umeå and had to be satisfied with second place with a width of 16.12 meters. Nevertheless, she qualified for the 2014 European Championships in Zurich . There she was eliminated from the competition with a width of 14.98 meters in qualification.

On February 28, 2015, she started at The American Indoor Championships in New York City and not only secured a new personal best in the hall with 16.00 meters, but also victory in the shot put competition. After not taking part in the Swedish Championships in 2015, she started the shot put competition of the Swedish Championships on August 28, 2018. With 15.31 meters, she secured the runner-up title. Even so, she missed both the Summer Olympics and the European Championships . On February 25, 2017, she started at the Swedish indoor championships in the shot put and took second place there with a width of 15.37 meters.

In 2018, Frida Åkerström was able to improve her best performance several times. With a personal best of 16.81 meters, which she set up in Växjö on July 18, 2018 , she qualified for the 2018 European Athletics Championships in Berlin . In the shot put qualification she missed the final with a width of 16.20 meters. On August 24, 2018, she started in Eskilstuna at the Swedish championships in shot put and finished second with a distance of 16.31 meters. In her penultimate competition of the season on September 1, 2018, she increased her personal best to 17.11 meters.
