Fridays against poverty in old age

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fridays against old-age poverty is a populist movement that specifically targets the problem of old-age poverty in Germany. The movement received media attention through numerous reports that it was infiltrated by right-wing political groups .

The name is inspired by Fridays for Future without the movement having any reference to it.

Emergence

The group was preceded by an article on the right-wing extremist blog PI News from July 9, 2019, which called on the AfD to address the issue of old-age poverty. However, it cannot be said clearly whether this is a coincidence or whether Fridays against old-age poverty was inspired by it.

On September 25, 2019, Heinz Gustav Madsen initially founded the movement as a Facebook group. Similar to Fridays for Cubraum, the group quickly gained popularity with over 300,000 members (as of January 25, 2020).

On December 3, 2019, 10 demands were published. Among other things, the withdrawal of Agenda 2010 is called for, as well as tax exemption for pension amounts and the introduction of a tax on the wealthy. In addition, it is called for “misappropriation and removal of the deposited money from the pension fund” or “wasting taxpayers' money in offices, authorities and ministries” as a criminal offense.

The first nationwide action by Fridays against poverty in old age took place on January 24, 2020 in the form of a nationwide vigil in various cities.

Founder Heinz Gustav Madsen

There are numerous articles about Heinz Gustav Madsen on the Internet before he founded the group Fridays against poverty in old age. He operates under several pseudonyms such as "Heinrich von Graf", "Graf Aslan von Azkaban", or "Graf von Black". He is accused of various frauds , which is why the police wanted him. So he gave from 2014 to 2018 with several Gothic - concerts before, donations against child poverty to collect. However, he has repeatedly not paid out these funds.

There are also reports, for example about copyright infringements .

A separate group with 141 members (as of January 25, 2020) has been formed on Facebook, which deals exclusively with fraud reports relating to Heinz Madsen. In addition, his work was decisive for the establishment of the group "Gothic against impostors", which now has over 670 members (as of January 25, 2020).

Links to the right scene

Numerous media such as Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) , Jetzt.de , Heise Online , and the taz , as well as associations and groups such as Omas gegen Rechts , or Ver.di report references to the right-wing scene and numerous right-wing statements within Fridays against old-age poverty.

According to BR, members of the group spread, among other things, opinions such as "We don't get a pension because all the money is used for refugees ."

Peter Nowak describes Fridays against old-age poverty as a “ honey pot for unsuspecting people”. “Grandmas against the Right” also warn that the Fridays for Future-based logo of Fridays against old-age poverty gives a false image of sympathy, similarities and seriousness.

The people- betrayer analyzed the vigils on January 24, 2020 in detail for their right-wing remuneration. A large number of right-wing small parties and groups such as Dierechte , the NPD , the AfD , or Journalistenwatch called for these vigils - accordingly, numerous representatives of these parties were present at the vigils nationwide. In some cities, however, the vigils were canceled again because the local teams did not want to be instrumentalized by rights.

The Ver.di trade union also criticizes Fridays against old-age poverty as “pure populism” and criticizes the fact that “there are no specific goals or demands, no articles or analyzes on old-age poverty and its causes” .
