Fridays for cubic capacity

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fridays for Hubraum is a non-public Facebook group from Germany, which sees itself as an opposing position to Fridays for Future and is committed to individual automobile traffic, especially with combustion engines . The initiator of the group relativized the scientific consensus that climate change is caused by humans in an interview, but also distanced himself from right-wing positions that could be read in comments and were deleted.

history

The group was founded on September 22, 2019 by master mechanic and car tuner Christopher Grau on the social network Facebook . Originally it was, according to the company's own statements, a “joke”, but it quickly became popular with new registrations. By September 24, the group had more than 74,000 user accounts, and by September 30, 510,000. On October 4th, over 540,000 user accounts were counted, from then on the growth has slowed significantly (November 2nd: 563,000 user accounts).

Beliefs

In an interview on October 5, 2019, the group's initiator relativized that climate change was caused by humans, but also distanced himself from right-wing positions. He put the causes of climate change into perspective : "In the field of research there are measurements that completely rule out a causal relationship between the mean earth temperature and CO 2, " and thus contradicted the state of the art according to which global warming is caused by humans.

Moderation of the group

Due to the high number of unacceptable contributions, which were highlighted in the press, the administration of the group set the status to 'non-public'. Afterwards, accessions were no longer automatically confirmed, which significantly slowed the group's growth. Even after that, however, it was not possible to delete unwanted posts promptly. Therefore, the group was set to the status 'archived' on September 25th, so that only admins can access it. After adjustment, the group was reactivated on September 27th, but no longer as 'public'.

During the shutdown, other Facebook groups with similar names that related to Fridays for Cubraum were created.

Public reception

About Fridays for displacement was initially mostly reported in the context that members of the "right ideas" could recognize and hate comments in particular on the Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg wrote that from insults to violence calls such as rape - and death threats ranged against them. Grau distanced himself from it: “Please don't channel your anger on a 16 year old girl, what's the point? And right-wing agitation does not work! ”It is allegedly only a minority of the members. The administrators and moderators actively opposed such comments.

The state parliamentary group of the AfD Saxony and other AfD politicians promoted the Facebook group from the very beginning. AfD members also placed paid ads for them. On October 4, 2019, the AfD leadership announced that they wanted to support the non-public Facebook group Fridays for Hubraum.
