Ruhrbarone is a German-language blog from Bochum , which also appeared in print from 2010 to 2013. The subject of the reporting is in particular the Ruhr area , but it is also published on supraregional topics.
history
The blog was founded in 2007 by Stefan Laurin , David Schraven , Ulrike Traub, Thomas Nückel and Christoph Schurian. The editorial team consists mainly of journalists who work full-time for other media. Nückel left the Ruhr barons in April 2009 because he ran for the FDP in the 2010 state election.
In 2009 a full-time employee of the FDP used the internet access of his workplace in the Berlin party headquarters to comment negatively on a critical report by the Ruhr barons on the parliamentary absences of the FDP MEP Silvana Koch-Mehrin under numerous pseudonyms . A review of the incident by the German Council for Public Relations led to a warning from the FDP.
From 2010 to 2013, Klartext Verlag also published a print edition.
In the state election campaign in 2010, Ruhrbarons and We in North Rhine-Westphalia revealed a series of affairs by the CDU-led state government. Alfons Pieper, operator of Wir in NRW, justified this with a "tendency to report to Jürgen Rüttgers at court " in NRW newspapers.
Against the background of the takeover of the last of the three previously independent Dortmund local newspapers by the WAZ Group, the Ruhr Barons expanded their coverage there in 2013. However, Laurin made it clear to the Süddeutsche Zeitung that this could not replace the diversity of the press in several local editorial offices.
In 2015, neo-Nazis posted fake death notices for four authors of the Ruhr Barons on the Internet that were signed with “National Resistance Now”. The ads also competed an online store for Nazi memorabilia which a Dortmund city council of the neo-Nazi splinter party the rights belonged. Those affected perceived the action as a death threat and filed a complaint.
On the occasion of the controversy surrounding the Echo award ceremony for the controversial German rock band Frei.Wild in February 2016, editor-in-chief Laurin described the music group on Ruhrbarone as a “dirt” or “Spackenband” as well as “stupid, nationalistic, right-wing and as ugly as pure” ". This tried to warn Ruhr barons and demanded that their lawyers delete the wording and issue a cease and desist declaration . Ruhrbarone refused, repeated the wording and referred the other side to a judicial clarification.
