Frieda Kassen

Frieda Kassen (born November 2, 1895 in Neuhof (Zossen) ( Zossen near Berlin); † July 10, 1970 in Bremen ) was a German politician ( SPD ) and she was a member of the Bremen citizenship .

biography

education and profession

Kassen was the daughter of a construction worker. The father was often dismissed for political reasons and the family often moved. When the father died early, the mother worked as a laundress. Kassen learned to be a saleswoman. In the 1920s she worked in a stocking factory in Görlitz . Here she was elected chairwoman of the works council.

politics

Kassen joined the SPD in 1922. After 1945 she became a city councilor in Görlitz and chairwoman of the trade and transport union there. Due to the difficulties that she had with the SED as a former social democrat , she moved to Bremen in 1949. She immediately became more politically active in the SPD and the trade union.

From 1952 to 1967 she worked for the SPD for around 15 years as a member of Bremen's citizenship and in various deputations . She participated in the deputations for welfare, for construction and for reparations. In the citizenry she strongly represented the union positions.

Further memberships

Kassen headed the district women’s committee of the German trade union federation (DGB) and the women’s work in the food-gourmet-restaurants (NGG) union . In 1966 she took part in the NGG trade union day as a delegate.
