location

It is located on the right, the southeast slope of the Selketal high above Alexisbad on the Habichtstein . A little to the east of the monument, the cliff path leads along the Selketalstieg here .

Architecture and history

At the site of today's monument there was originally a large iron cross erected in 1813 . It stood on a round base made up of four stone steps, was based on a design by Karl Friedrich Schinkel and was reminiscent of the Napoleonic War . On a plaque was the inscription:

Dedicated to his dear, only son-in-law
Friedrich, Prince of Prussia
by Alexius Duke of Anhalt .
MDCCC IXV III

The memorial was thus dedicated to the husband of Luise von Anhalt-Bernburg , for whom the Luise Temple was built in the vicinity .

During the Second World War , the cross was lost in 1945 or thereafter.

In 1954 the Harzgeroder sculptor Paul Einecke created today's peace monument . As a relief, it shows a dove of peace based on the model of Pablo Picasso above a globe and uses the lower two steps of the old base as a location. Above the relief is the inscription: PEACE OF THE WORLD . There is also an inscription of the same name on the back of the monument.
