Cliff path

The Klippenweg is a hiking trail in the Harz Mountains in the Harzgerode area in Saxony-Anhalt .

The hiking trail is about five kilometers long and leads from the ascent to the Habichtstein in the south near Alexisbad along the right side of the Selketal in the direction of Mägdesprung to the Köthener Hut . In some areas, the Selketalstieg leads along the cliff path .

After a steep ascent in a westerly direction, starting on federal highway 242 , the cliff path reaches the engagement urn . Stamp point 177 of the Harz hiking pin is also located here directly on the path. The cliff path runs from there in a northeastern direction. From the path, short branches lead to the west, via which viewpoints and cliffs can be reached that are high above the Selke , such as the birch house first . Then the cliff path crosses the longest toboggan run in the Harz at 1100 meters . There follow branches to the peace monument , the Luisentempel and the Luisenklippe . After the junction to the Luisenklippe, the path winds in hairpin bends up to the Kapellenblick and then continues to the Hohe Klippe , above the pioneer tunnel . From here a path branches off to the Pioniersteig . A little later there is a branch to a nature trail. In the north the cliff path ends in the area of the Köthener hut and the stamping point 195 of the Harz hiking pin located there. From there, the Pioniersteig and the Bernburger Steig continue, the latter leading steeply down into the valley.

Contrary to what the name suggests, the cliff path has almost the character of a promenade after the ascent. After the former name of the Köthener Hütte as a chapel, the path was also known as the Kapellenweg in the past .
