Architecture and history

The memorial commemorates the happy gathering of six young, aristocratic couples from Württemberg from September 10th to 13th, 1845. The engagement urn was donated by Prince Hugo zu Hohenlohe-Öhringen . The name engagement urn came about in the vernacular and is also used officially today. There is no record of an actual engagement for the meeting in 1845.

On a high cast iron base there is an attachment in the form of a vase in the style of classicism . The year 1845 or 1845/1846 is given as the year of origin.

The monument was made in an iron foundry in Silesia that belonged to the Hohenlohe family. After the urn was badly weathered, it was dismantled in 1960. Although the urn as an object from the “feudal era” did not fit the GDR's understanding of the state , it was restored on a private initiative. Supported by the companies Gebrüder Bamberg KG, Harzgerode, and the Mägdesprunger Eisenhüttenwerk Carl Horn KG , Mägdesprung , the urn was renewed in 1961 using original parts in Mägdesprung as part of the national structure . In 1992 the monument was renovated.

There are inscriptions on the base. The date of the meeting is noted on the east side:

THE

1845.

The south side names six names of the women involved:
