Koethener Hut
The Köthener Hut , also called the chapel , in the Harz is a refuge near Mägdesprung in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt .
Geographical location
The Köthener Hütte is located in the Lower Harz in the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park between the Harzgeroder districts of Alexisbad in the south-south-west and Mägdesprung in the north-north-east. It stands on the western roof of the Schalkenburg ( 400.1 m above sea level ) , known as the Klippenberg , on the approximately 385 m high chapel rock , about 270 m northeast and about 85 m above the Selke falls , an artificial waterfall on the Bode tributary of the Selke . The federal highway 185 runs along the riverand the Selketalbahn .
History and description
The Köthener Hut was built in 1897 as a wooden hut painted white by hiking enthusiasts of the Harz Club branch association Köthen . Its small bell tower makes it look like a small church, so it is also called a chapel ; But it was also given this nickname in memory of the dilapidated wooden hut that had previously been in the same place. Some hikers ring the bell to signal their arrival there. The hut is looked after by the Harzklub-Zweigverein Harzgerode e. V. , who takes care of the preservation.

The Selketalstieg , which was laid out between Stiege and Quedlinburg along the Selktal , leads past the Köthener Hut , which is included as no. 195 in the system of stamping points for the Harz hiking pin. The shelter is located on the extending between Alexisbad and hiking Mägdesprung Klippenweg , which in many vantage points above the Selketal to achieve passes. In addition, a 1.2 km long path from between Alexisbad and Mägdesprung runs along the Selketalbahn and the B 185 located breakpoint wire drawing - on the end extending above the Selketal Klippenweg - up to the cabin.
