Drahtzug is a district of Mägdesprung , which in turn belongs as a district to the town of Harzgerode in the Harz district of Saxony-Anhalt . In addition, it is registered as a district forest ranger in the local monument register.

location

Drahtzug is located in the narrow Selketal in the Harz on the left bank of the Selke and consists of only a few buildings. The Selketalbahn runs directly to the west of the village and also has a maintenance stop in Drahtzug. To the east of the village, on the right bank of the Selke, Bundesstraße 185 runs from Mägdesprung, about two kilometers to the north, to the south in the direction of Alexisbad . A little further east is the small town of Stahlhammer . At Drahtzug the historic Julien Bridge leads over the Selke.

history

In 1769 the Mägdesprung ironworks was expanded. Among other things, the new factory was founded on the site of today's wire drawing . Other data give the year 1764. Using the water power of the Selke, a forge , a pipe forge , a grinding mill and three fresh hammers were operated here. In 1787 a wire drawing shop was set up, from which the name of the village goes back. In the wire drawing shop, there was the largest water wheel of the Mägdesprunger Hüttenwerk with a diameter of around 4.5 meters. 36 types of wire were produced. At the beginning of the 19th century, however, parts of the facility were no longer used. In 1842 the wire drawing shop was completely closed and demolished in 1845.

The Drahtzug forester's house was later built. In a purchase contract from 1880 for the Mägdesprung ironworks, the wire train with all buildings, gardens and fields is listed, so that at that time there was a development. The contract also stipulated that the house had to be made available to the tax authorities of the state of Anhalt free of charge for post and forest purposes.

The present-day listed residential building and the larger outbuilding were built in 1881/82. It was used as a forester's house until 1993. After the district forester who had lived in the house for many years, the building stood empty. On April 13, 1994, the basement of the building and the entire area were flooded when the Selke flooded. The damage to the buildings was minor, but the listed Julien Bridge was more severely damaged.

The forester's house and the outbuildings were initially only used sporadically for forestry purposes. The building remained uninhabited until 2000. The state of Saxony-Anhalt sold the property. The barn café on the Drahtzug was set up on the property .

building

The listed forester's house is built in half-timbered construction. The compartments are lined. At times, the facade was designed using cladding, which is typical for the Harz region . To the south of the forester's house there are single-storey, half-timbered auxiliary buildings. They date from the 18th century and thus from the wire drawing era and were used as a workshop. Other outbuildings go back to the 19th century and are half-timbered or brickwork.

There are remains of mining facilities on the western slope. There is also an artificial moat with a slate border.
