Windfeln is a court in the east of the Bergisch city ​​of Solingen .

Windfeln is located on a hillside about 15 meters below the level of Bundesstraße 229 , Remscheider Straße, which leads via Müngsten to Remscheid . From Solingen, Windfeln is just before the serpentines , accessible by a cul-de-sac, in a forest area above the Windfelner Bach , which flows into the Wupper at the Grunenburg estate . The name of the Hofschaft is borne by the nearby Windfelner Bridge , on which the trains on the railway line between Solingen and Wuppertal run.

etymology

The name of the court comes from the term Windhovele . The term Windfeln was abbreviated and can be interpreted as a windy hill or ridge.

history

A Godescalus de Windhuvele was mentioned in a document as early as 1227 . In the 17th century the court was owned by the Johanniter , in 1715 the Windhöfel court was marked on the map by Erich Philipp Ploennies . To the north of it, on the site of today's Halfeshof, was the Windhöveler Hof .

In the 18th century the place belonged to the Bergisch Honschaft Dorp in the office of Solingen . In 1815/16 there were 78 people living in the village, in 1830 there were 88 people.

In 1832 Windfeln belonged to the mayor's office of Dorp . The place, which was categorized as a court town according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , had eleven residential buildings, two factories or mills and eleven agricultural buildings at that time. At that time, 81 residents lived in the village, all of whom were Protestant.

In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province in 1885, 19 houses with 126 inhabitants are given. On January 1, 1889, the mayor's office and town of Dorp with Windfeln were incorporated into the town of Solingen. In 1895 the place had 20 houses with 130 inhabitants, in 1905 14 houses and 127 inhabitants.

In the courtyard there are some half-timbered houses of the Bergisch style , including an old row of houses. Of the half-timbered houses in the village, the buildings WIndfeln 6, 15 and 17 have been listed since 1984/1985 .
